The OM118-B4L is built for students learning basic life science processes in grade 4 to senior high school students preparing for post-secondary education in the sciences. It features all the flexible design features students need to thrive, like:
An integrated double-layered mechanical stage that includes full graduated X/Y movement (18mm x 70mm) with coaxial coarse/fine focus controls.
High-quality rack and pinion mechanicsfor longer life and coaxial focus controls for easy focusing.
An Abbe 1.25 N. A with Iris diaphragm (which increases to 6.5" with the addition of 0.5x auxiliary Barlow lens).
A binocular microscope head inclined at 45 degrees , available in both binocular or trinocular format.
A head that rotates through 360 degrees Rack and pinion focus includes controls for both your right and left hands to make focusing a lot more convenient.
Bright built-in LED illumination Rack and pinion focus includes controls for both your right and left hands to make focusing a lot more convenient.
A rack stop Rack and pinion focus includes controls for both your right and left hands to make focusing a lot more convenient.
Packed with Optimal Optics for Students
We built the OM118-B4L microscope with young students in mind. So, we packed it with features like coaxial controls that enable students to move the slide without looking up from the eyepiece, keeping students constantly engaged with the specimen under their scope. We fit this student microscope with the same optics that professional microscopes use on a day-to-day basis:
Two wide field WF10x eyepieces
Four parcentered, parfocal achromatic objective lenses (4x, 40x spring, 100x spring oil immersion)
Four magnification levels of 40x, 100x, 400x and 1,000x
If you just don’t like your Omano microscope and want to send it back after a few weeks of use, do it. We’ll take it back with no questions asked.
If you have a problem with it 30 years from now, we’ll fix it. We made a decision decades ago that we would offer a lifetime limited warranty because we know we don’t have to worry about quality issues.

Swap Out that Hard Eyepiece for Soft Imaging
Imagine the awe students in your class experience when they witness molecular microscopy on a projector or computer screen. A student microscope helps make small things big. A digital microscope camera makes those things even bigger.
The OM118-B4L student microscope comes with the OptixCam Summit K2 Series KK2-1.3MP digital microscope camera. This sturdy and affordable camera is specially designed for young students still learning the ropes of microscopy. Since most students are used to using technology in their day-to-day lives, incorporating a camera that captures vivid microscopy images gets them even more enthused about it.
Easy-to-Use Software
The OptixCam Summit K2 Series KK2-1.3MP digital microscope camera is compatible with Windows operating systems (and no, it’s not compatible with MAC). Installation is fast so students can start capturing images and video right away. The software is packed with features that help students manipulate their images and easily share their findings with their peers and teachers:
Image capture
Notation
Geometric measuring
Storage in JPG, BMP, TIFF, and RAW format
Auto white balance
Color enhancement
Anti-flicker
… among other image-enhancing benefits that help make image capture fun and easy for students in your classroom.
What Else is in the Box
We’re glad you asked! Microscope.com gives you all the accessories you need to learn to use and care for your microscope:
Dust cover to keep your microscope in top-performing condition
Manual
Spare bulb
Spare fuse
Immersion oil
Camera Accessories:
1.3MP digital camera with an integrated 23mm adapter
We introduced this microscope as a cheaper alternative to our ever-popular Omano OM36 binocular compound microscope. It is not as solidly built as the OM36 but does offer a microscopy soltuion to those on a more limited budget.
