Summary

The OM239-T is an affordable trinocular solution for polarizing applications. It features an integrated Bertrand Lens, four plan, strain-free objectives and five WF10x eyepieces for a magnification range of 100x-630x. Three eyepieces include reticles (grid, cross-hair and linear). Lifetime Limited Warranty.

Optics

This trinocular polarizing microscope includes a Bertrand Lens integrated into the head and five wide field WF10x eyepieces. Three eyepieces include reticles (grid, cross-hair and linear). Combined with four plan achromatic, strain free objectives, magnification powers include 100x, 250x, 400x(spring) and 630x(spring). There are diopters on each ocular for individual eye adjustments and interpupillary adjustment of 55-75mm.

The objectives are set in a forward-facing nosepiece with click stop settings. The trinocular port is 23.2mm for use with eyepiece microscope cameras.

Stage & Focus

The circular mechanical stage has full XY movement control with a range of 30x40mm. 360 degree graduations are inscribed for precise positioning and measurement. The stage measures 160mmm in diameter with ball bearing movement and stage positioning mechanism.

Condenser & Illumination

Abbe 1.3 N.A with iris, positioning adjustments and swing out filter holder. Illumination is 110V 6V 30W halogen transmitted.

Accessories

Color equipment compensator accessories: gypsum, mica (1/4) and quartz wedge samples, dust cover, spare bulb, blue filter, 0.01 measure rule, manual.

Polarizing Microscopy

The OM 239 is a polarizing or petrographic microscope designed for specialized medical and industrial applications such as identifying crystals or minerals in core samples. The microscope employs employs two polarizing filters in the light path. One is called the polarizer and the other an analyzer. By "crossing" the filters, one can examine birefringent specimens such as calcite and quartz..

The polarizing microscope is especially useful in the study of birefringent materials and is ideally used for chemical microscopy and optical mineralogy. Birefringence is also known as double refraction, or when light traveling through a substance (such as calcite) splits into two beams and travels in two different speeds. The polarizing microscope can be used in a variety of scientific studies, in addition to ore analysis.

These include geology, mineralogy, toxicology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medicine, forensics, the pulp and paper industry, studying atmospheric pollution, asbestos fiber evaluation and assessing ceramics.
