Why Students Love It
The Omano OM118-M3 is the quintessential microscope for students beginning and expanding their skills in the world of microscopy. It has all the professional-level features they’d need to make their skills transferable, should they decide to pursue post-secondary education in the sciences.
The OM118-M3 microscope is a compound microscope built to allow students to examine their specimens at a comfortable posture with a 45-degree ocular angle, and a microscope head that flexibly rotates 360 degrees, making in-class collaboration a breeze.
Let’s Get Optical
This is where students really get to experience the magic of microscopy. Equip your students with clear glass optics and powerful magnifications that send them on scientific adventures whenever they step foot in your class. The OM118-M3 comes with:
- A WF10x eyepiece
- Three achromatic objectives lenses (4x, 10x, 40x spring)
- Magnification levels of 40x, 100x, 400x and 1,000x.
- Objectives set in a triple, forward-facing nosepiece
If you just don’t like your Omano microscope and want to send it back after a few weeks of use, do it. We’ll take it back with no questions asked.
If you have a problem with it 30 years from now, we’ll fix it. We made a decision decades ago that we would offer a lifetime limited warranty because we know we don’t have to worry about quality issues.

Focus on the Stage
What makes a student microscope different from a regular microscope? It’s the little features that set a beginner microscope apart from advanced microscopy tools. Microscope.com has 25 years of experience building microscopes for students. We’ve got a good grasp on the must-have features of an excellent student microscope and built them right into the OM118-M3.
Check out these little features that make a big impact on student engagement:
- A plain stage with two spring-loaded stage clips to help retain the slides.
- An optional mechanical slide holder is available. We recommend this slide holder as it makes slide handling significantly easier for both younger children and teenagers alike.
- Includes rack and pinion design for durability and coaxial coarse and fine focus controls, allowing a student to constantly keep their eyes on their specimen. This enhances student engagement and creates a sustained interest in the microscope.
- A rack stop for increased safety. It ensures that the stage does not interfere with the objectives. This prevents potentially expensive slide breakage.
- A slip clutch control to mitigate the risk of damaging the focus controls through overextension.
Farewell, Weak Illumination!
The OM118-M3 features a 0.65 N.A condenser with an Iris diaphragm for optimal adjustments, and built-in transmitted 20w incandescent illumination that includes variable intensity so students can get the illumination that works best for them.
Swap Out that Hard Eyepiece for Soft Imaging
Technology is a part of our day-to-day lives. Weaning students off technology and putting them onto a microscope is a challenge for many educators.
What if there was a way to combine a love of technology with a passion for microscopy?
This OM118-M3 comes with a 1.3MP digital microscope camera that instantly transforms it into a digital microscope.
KoPa Cam Software
A digital microscope camera comes with robust documentation and measuring software that your students will love using to play around with their images. This Windows-only software offers a comprehensive range of features including measuring software, drawing tools and annotation:
- Fast refresh rates (range from 15fps at 2592 x 1944 (maximum resolution) to 40fps at 1280 x 960)
- Auto/manual exposure
- White balance control
- Fullscreen live imaging
- Time-lapse photography
- User-friendly image capture
- Image formats: JPG, PNG, BMP, and PDF
Controls & Operation
Your students can download the KoPa Cam app for free and connect to the KoPa network within their device’s WiFi settings. The microscope camera uses an internally-located antenna to optimize the WiFi signal performance in learning environments.
The camera features a standard C-mount interface to fit any microscope with a C-mount adapter. In addition, the camera has a tripod mount on the base, allowing for use as a stand-alone imaging device (with a C-mount standard macro or zoom lens fitted). The KoPa AIR camera also features a 5000mAh lithium Ion battery, capable of operating for 8 hours on a full charge.
